Mary Ann was born to George Albin 1805-1893 and Sarah "Sally" Arnett Albin 1805-1840 (died in Iowa-burial location unknown). Mary Ann and her sister, Minerva, lived together in West Branch, Cedar County, Iowa, both dress makers and milliners. Mary Ann, who never married, adopted three children later in life: Eva L. Miller 1873-1885; Mae Smith Albin Hemmingway 1886-1968; and Nellie Leonard King (husband George) 1891- of Three Rivers, Michigan. Mary Ann and her sister, Minerva who also never married, raised the 3 girls together. Mary Ann and Minerva were Methodists and Mary Ann taught Sunday School for many years.
