Jesse "Nelson" Bradford was the son of Daniel Bradford and Winaford Bullock. He and his two brothers (twins), John Jasper and William Harrison joined the Union Army during the Civil War.

The following is from the book: "The Grand River Trail Clinton and DeKalb Counties 1833 - 1979"

"John Jasper Bradford (1841 - 1936 Christian Chapel Cemetery) and his twin brother William (1841 - 1881 Wamsley Cemetery) and brother Nelson (1842 - 1926 Mt. Pleasent Cemetery) were born in Tennessee and came with their parents to Missouri.

On August 30, 1864, John Jasper joined the Union Army and was enrolled as a private in Company C, 43rd Regiment of Infantry under George M. Brown with the Federal Troops. His brother, Nelson was stationed at the bridge near Grindstone Falls to guard the bridge from destruction by fire from the Confederate troops making their way North from Lexington. The road traveled by the Federal and Confederate troops is now Highway 69."

Nelson married Phoebe Catherine Collyer. They were the parents of Samuel Jasper, Emma N, Lucy Ann, Mary Elizabeth, and William E Bradford.
