NEWPORT NEWS - Laura Hockaday Carter, 87, a Peninsula resident for 13 years, died Thursday, Nov. 14.
Mrs. Carter retired as a saleswoman from Nachman's Department Store in 1970 after 13 years of service.
She was a native of Diascund. Mrs. Carter was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa.
Survived by two daughters, Irma C. Bell of Newport News and Constance C. Shainline of Long Beach, Calif.; a son, Selden J. Carter Jr. of Joplin, Mo.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service at 3:30 p.m. today in Peninsula Memorial Park by the Rev. W. Lynn Hodges. W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home in charge. Edition: Final
