Enid “Laurestine” Hayes, 95, of Montana Mines, formerly of Mannington, passed away Sunday (Feb. 20, 2011) at United Hospital in Clarksburg.
She was born April 16, 1915, in Metz, a daughter of the late Elzie Harlan and Mary Ellen Haught Moore.
She is survived by her eight daughters; a daughter-in-law; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Laurestine was preceded in death by her husband, William Lester Hayes; one son, William Frederick Hayes; three grandchildren, Mary Jane Elza, Carol Jean Elza and David Starsick; one great-grandson, Brian Vergato; and four brothers and three sisters.
Laurestine was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and doing word search puzzles. She enjoyed working with her flowers. She also enjoyed attending church with her daughter, Brenda. She loved life and all of her family and will be sadly missed.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Reverend Wayne Efaw officiating. Burial will follow at Whetstone Cemetery.
