Claude Harrison Cox, 79, known by his family and friends as "Sonny" passed away peacefully at his home June 12, 2012.

Sonny was born on June 14, 1932 to Henry and Sylvia Cox in Sanger, California and was raised on the family grape farm. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and learned to be a top-notch cook. Cooking was one of his passions he loved to share with others.

Family and music were his life. He enjoyed all types of music and worked many years for Dunkley Music. He was a choir member of Nampa First Christian Church, Boise First Baptist Church and sang in a Barbershop Quartet. Sonny collected hundreds of vinyl records and embraced technology to such an extent that he was always "tinkering" with better ways to perfect the quality of his music. He was truly a man that changed with the times. He was also active in fund raising for the building of the Boise Square Dance Hall.

Sonny was a beloved husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, who had a fun sense of humor and a smile that would light up the room, especially when his children and grandchildren came to visit. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Sonny married his best friend Gloria Nichols. They were married 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; five daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Arehart, Boise, Wendy (Jeff) Snyder, Chandler, AZ, Bunnie (Ken) March, Nampa, Claudia (Mike) Wilson, Nampa, and Julie (Charles) Jones, Tumwater, WA; a sister, Thelma Killingsworth, Pennsylvania; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nephews; three nieces; and his special friends, Tina Clark and Christie Morgan. Sonny was previously married to Irma Porter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Velma Custer and grandson, Damien Mendenhall.

Special thanks to Pastor Steve Perotti of First Christian Church and Treasure Valley Hospice. We also want to thank his many friends and family who supported him during his illness.

A viewing will held on Sunday, June 17th, 5:00pm-7:00pm at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Private military honors will be held in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise. A celebration of his life will be held at First Christian Church in Nampa, Monday, June 18th at 12:00 noon.

Donations can be made to Treasure Valley Hospice or First Christian Church in Nampa.
