Reuben S. Metzger, 93, of Falls City, NE, passed away March 8, 2009 at Falls City. He was born July 29, 1915 at Lester, IA to the late Charles and Mary (Bieri) Metzger.
On October 17, 1939 he married Dorothy M. Whitaker at Auburn, NE. She passed away September 18, 2008.
Reuben graduated from Sabetha High School at Sabetha, KS in 1934 and became employed at Green's Drug Store in the Hotel Stephenson. He worked for Martin Aircraft Corporation in Omaha, NE during World War II. He moved to Falls City following the war and purchased an interest in Phelp's Drug Store and became the manager and then he purchased the Caverzagie Drug Store. He then became a Metropolitan Life Insurance Agent in 1962 and retired in 1980. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church at Falls City and Senior Warden of the Vestry of his church. He was also a member and P.E.R. of Falls City Elks Lodge #963, past president of Falls City Chamber of Commerce, past president of Falls City Lions Club, past president of Falls City Country Club and member of T.P.A.
Reuben is survived by his daughter, Victoria Hedlund and her husband, Larry of Leawood, KS, son, Dr. John Metzger and his wife Jean of Hiawatha, KS, sister, Esther Banwart of Aurora, IL, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Philip, Walter, Albert and Aaron Metzger.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Pastor Larry Parrish officiating. Inurnment will be St. Thomas Episcopal Church columbarium.
