Obituary
Sidney M. Lawford
The death occurred in the Carleton Place and District
Hospital on June 26th of Sidney M. Lawford in his 86th
year. Born in Appleton the son of the late Robert Lawford
and his wife Sarah Thompson, he attended the Carleton
Place and Almonte Schools. He worked in the textile
industry all his life – and the last fifty years with the
Rosamond Woollen Company in Almonte until he retired in
1950 when he moved to Carleton Place to make his home
with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Carns Lever.
He was a member of the Baptist Church, taking a
special interest in the Sunday School where he served as
secretary-treasurer for 35 years.
In his early years he played lacrosse and baseball and
was keenly interested in all sports, an interest he
maintained until his death.
His wife the former Mary M. Moore predeceased him in
1949. Surviving are two sons Wesley E. of Toronto, Clifford
S. of Carleton Place, two daughters, Valda of Ottawa and
Edith, Mrs Carn Lever of Carleton Place; also surviving are
three grandsons, Robert of Barrie, Wallace of Ottawa Earl
of Carleton Place and one granddaughter Aldyth Lawford
Evans of Ottawa.
The funeral took place on Tuesday, June 29th from
Allan Barker Funeral Home with Rev John McPahail
officiating. The pallbearers were Robert MacFarlane, Ray
Moffatt, Howard McNeely, William Anderson, Herbert
Dopson and Arthur Buchanan. Interment was in the Auld
Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.
