NOTE: America's husband Nelson died in 1879 and is buried in London, Ohio, where the family was living at the time. At the time of his death and burial, America's name was added to the headstone. Eventually, however, after her mother's death in 1908, she moved to the Chicago suburb of Dolton to be near her son Albert. After her son's death in 1923 and until her death in 1933, she continued to live with Albert's widow Jessie. She is buried in Cook County IL, not in Ohio with her husband. Therefore, the death date on the Ohio headstone remains blank. (See the headstone photo on her husband's memorial page.)


The Pointer, Riverdale, Illinois, Friday, March 10, 1933:
Mrs. America F. Moomaw, 88 years old, passed away at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Moomaw, Wednesday, March 8th, at 11:55 p.m., in Dolton. She was born in Bainbridge, Ohio, on April 16, 1846. She was united in marriage to Nelson B. Moomaw of Bainbridge, September 28, 1864, and settled in London, Ohio. Four children were born to this union, all of whom with the father have preceded her to the grave. She came to Dolton from London, Ohio, after the death of her mother in October, 1908, to make her home with her son and family, the late Albert Moomaw. She was a member of the Dolton M. E. church, a past president of the W. C. T. U. of Dolton, and a devout Christian all her life. She leaves her only grandson, George Moomaw and daughter-in-law Jessie Moomaw, and many friends to mourn her death. Funeral services will be held at the home, 14631 Chicago street, Dolton, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. E. Thompson of Dolton and Rev. A. A. Meyer of Pullman will officiate. Burial at Oak Lawn cemetery, Thornton, Ill.
