Donna J. Mark age 78 of Zumbrota died on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Tom Isaacson and Reverend Duane Hoven co-officiation. Burial will be private. There will be no visitation.

Donna Jean Mark was born on November 7, 1930 in Pine Island Township, Goodhue County, MN to Chester A. and Hazel (nee McAlonan) Mark. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1949 she graduated from Zumbrota High School. She went on to receive her BA degree in English at Hamline University in 1954. Donna taught for two years at Stewartville High School, two years at Willmar High School and twenty eight years at Duluth Central. While teaching in Duluth she earned her master's degree from the University of Minnesota – Duluth in 1967. Donna owned her home in Duluth and had a summer home in Grand Marais on the Gunflint Trail. Donna received rewards and recognition for her photography. One of her photos was published in "Minnesota Volunteer" magazine. She also took weekly photos for Animal Allies in the two Duluth newspapers. In 1988 a Russian newspaper chose one of her photos for a series titled "Building Bridges". Following her retirement, Donna remained in Duluth until 1999 when she returned to Zumbrota to live with her brother Fred on the family farm. She was an active member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Faith in Action, Zumbrota Food Shelf and the Zumbrota Care Center Auxiliary. In addition to photography Donna enjoyed reading and was a member of the Zumbrota Book Club.

Donna is survived by her brother, Fred of Zumbrota, nieces and nephews; Helen (Herb) Sorby of Rochester, Mary (Howard) Ayen of Rochester, Janet (Bob) Ofstie of Zumbrota, John (Judy) Mark of Elk River, Lee Mark of Monterey, CA, Marnie (Doug) Gustafson of Pebble Beach, CA, and Richard (Nisel) Mark of Snellville, GA, many great nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Doris Mark of Carmel, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Clyde, Forest and John and one sister, Margaret.
