Funeral services for Edward J. Lips, who died March 7, were held Thursday, March 10, at the home and at the Evangelical church, with the Rev. George Witthaus officiating. Burial was in the Methodist cemetery east of Nerstrand. Misses Ardell and Janet Olstad sang at the home, and Miss Jane Bailey and the quartet at the church. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Bollenbach, Edw. Starch, Herbert Von Wald, Arhur Hildebrandt, Henry Petersmeyer, and W. C. Hildebrandt. The active pallbearers Kenneth Bailey, Myron Lips, Amber Lips, Howard Lips, Amber Lips, Howard Lips. Irvin Lips and Myron Turner. Edward John Lips, son of Henry and Amelia Lips, was born in Wheeling township June 22, 1886, and died March 7, 1938, at his home in Holden township. On May 1, 1919 he was united in marriage to Alma Mussehl. This union was blessed with three sons and one daughter, Myron, Kenneth, Algene and Dean. Mr. Lips became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church when he was confirmed at the age of fourteen. He held important offices in the church and also in the community. He was a faithful church worker until the end. Mr. Lips was in comparatively good health until last August, but he did not think his illness serious until in January when he went to Rochester. Mr. Lips leaves to mourn his death his wife, three sons, and one daughter; two brothers, Wesley and Arthur; three sisters, Lydia, (Mrs. E. O. Bailey) and Esther, (Mrs. Calmer Olstad) of Nerstrand and Emily, (Mrs. Walter Saufferer) of Morristown and two uncles, George Lips of Kenyon and Jacob Lips of Hitchock. There are thirteen nieces and nine nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
