Patrick Edward Pence was born on 1 February 1946 in Coronado, California to Penny & Robert Pence. He had an older sibling of 9.5 years, Peter Christian Pence, who was born June 25, 1936 and died December 29, 2010.
He grew up all over the US due to his father running from the law from hot check charges. After college, he became a sportswriter for the Albuquerque Tribune where he met his 1st wife and 3rd wife, Mary Jane, covering a baseball game at Vero Beach High School in Florida. They were married on August 10, 1972 in Albuquerque, NM, moved to New Jersey in 1982 and welcomed their only child, a daughter on Saturday, August 14, 1982 in Pompton Plains, NJ. Sadly, they were divorced in 1990.
In 1992, Patrick met his future second wife who he was married to until 2010.
Patrick Pence taught for 30 years as a high school mathematics and computer science teacher in New Mexico, New Jersey and Texas.
He had congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation and Type II diabetes. As his health began to decline in 2010, he began losing the ability to walk distances greater than 30-40 feet without the help of a walker, fell numerous times until he agreed to ask for help and wound up totally losing his entire independence. After a series of unfortunate events including the death of 2 people very close to him, Patrick became very depressed. He died receiving rehabilitative care at a local nursing home where he would be sent home after the rehab was finished.
While he is truly home now, his daughter was deeply saddened at the loss of her best friend as she was his only child & sole "non professional" caregiver during his last 2 years. Patrick Pence was an amazing man, always wanted every child to have an education, loved with all he had & in the end, didn't carry the peace he so deserved. Prior to his death, he fell back in love with his first wife who he remarried not long before he died. They had become friends again and they reconnected on a level they never had.
He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany, 5 grandchildren, - Jackson Edward, born November of 2004, Christopher Lynn born in March of 2008, Audrey Eileen born in January of 2010, Brian Eric JR born in February of 2011 & Patrick born in March of 2015. He is & will always be very missed!!
Sincere appreciation goes to the dedicated staff of Harris Methodist HEB, Ethicus Hospital of Grapevine & Keller Oaks Nursing Facility who genuinely cared for Patrick during his decline.
