AMHERST - Harry Asimou, age 95 years and a resident of Amherst, died Friday, November 11, 2011 at his residence after a short illness.
Harry was born in Greece, September 12, 1916 and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1967. He was employed by the City of Lorain for 25 years.
Harry was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Lorain. He had a tremendous work ethic which he instilled in his sons and grandchildren. He was an integral participant in the raising of his grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed trips to Greece to visit family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary (nee Panourgia); two sons; Tom (wife, Jennifer) of Amherst and Kenny (wife, Sharon) of Amherst; two grandchildren; Bobby and Maria Asimou, both of Amherst; and other family members.
Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Tuesday 4 - 8 p.m. Trisagion Service 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Loulevard, Lorain. Rev. Michael Gulgas, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
