November 11, 1915 Pierce County Herald - Marion Rolfe Trippe, daughter of Timothy B. Tripp of Red Wing, met death in the Wisconsin channel of the Mississippi River on Monday morning at about 8 o'clock and apparently indications point to the death as a suicide.
She was discovered struggling in the water by Charles Johnson, Pierce County farmer who was driving over the bridge. He rushed along the bank and waded out into the water to the depth of his neck. He could not reach her and accordingly called for help. C. A. Adams and his hired man hurried to the scene and a boat was secured. This was pushed into the stream and the girl's body was lifted into it. She was brought to shore and there was no signs of life. Miss Tripp was 19 years old and it is believed that the cause for her rash act was despondency.
