Engineer and Railroad Pioneer. He designed the Suez Channel, which was between Africa and Asia in Egypt between the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea. Suez channel was built after his death in the years 1859-69. Negrelli was an important railway, road and hydraulic engineering-builder. A quote from Alois Negrelli's book: "The connection of the two seas with a canal is not only a necessity for free trade by shortening the route between Europe and the old rich countries of the Indian Ocean but also for increase of coastal navigation and economic prosperity of this blessed country (Egypt)".
