Funeral services for Lester O. Belfield, 907 Weaver St., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel. They will be conducted by the Rev. Neil Heidrick, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Belfield died Tuesday noon in St. Mary's Hospital where he had been admitted Sunday for treatment of injuries suffered when he was thrown from a horse he was riding. Death was caused by complications which resulted from the injuries.
Mr. Belfield had been a resident of Emporia for many years. He was a former employe (sic) of the Emporia Wholesale Coffee Company, a salesman and a manufacturer's agent. In recent months he has owned and operated the Bel-Mar Music Company at 203 Commercial St. The son of Oscar D. and Emma Morgan Belfield, he was born Dec. 2nd, 1893, in Rush County, and moved with his parents to Emporia in 1899. He was married to Esther E. Schulz March 16th, 1832, in Abilene, and she died Sept. 29th, 1964. He was married to Alberta D. Martin June 28th, 1965, in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Belfield was a member of the First Methodist Church and the United Commercial Travelers and was a veteran of World War I. He was preceded in death by Esther Belfield and by one brother, Virgil D. Belfield.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Duane R. (Pat) Allen, Potomac, Md.; Mrs. Patrick J. (Kay) Ryan, Overland Park, and Pauline Wright, Topeka; one sister, Mrs. Marea B. Black, Pittsburg, and three grandchildren, Rene, Melissa, Pamela and Stewart Randall Allen, of Potomac.
