John M., the eldest son of Noah Weld and Mary M. (Norris) Abbott, was born March 4, 1865. After completing his studies he directed his attention to lumbering, and is now a member of the lumber firm of Abbott Brothers, also a member of the firm of Abbott Brothers Company, merchants, of Sugargrove.
He possesses the attributes of a successful business man, is highly regarded in the community and has a host of friends. He is a member and officer in the Methodist Episcopal church, and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in the work of which he takes an active interest.

He married, April 13, 1886, Matilda J. Eastman, born November 3, 1865, daughter of Charles and Christine (Burdick) Eastman. Children: Jessie, born November 30, 1889; Ralph, born November 9, 1897.
The family resides in Sugargrove, Pennsylvania.

John Martin Abbott, well known resident of Sugar Grove, died at his home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. He has been confined to his home for several months, but had been up and about the house on Saturday.

Mr. Abbott was born at Blockville, N.Y., March 4, 1865, the eldest of eight sons born to Noah W. and Mary Norris Abbott. On April 13, 1886, he was married to Matilda Eastman, who died June 8, 1913. On October 13, 1914, he married Jennet Langdon, who survives, with two children, Ralph Abbott and Mrs. Jessie Cody, Sugar Grove; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also two brothers, James Edward Abbott, Sugar Grove, and Hila P. Abbott, Jamestown, N.Y.

Mr. Abbott came to Sugar Grove in 1890 and had since resided there. He and his brothers owned and operated a sawmill and feed mill for many years and, in 1908, purchased the W.H. Mix store. This was operated by them and, later by J.M. Abbott and son, Ralph, until 1952, when they sold the store and Mr. Abbott retired.
Mr. Abbott was always interested in betterment of the village and was instrumental in getting improved roads and electricity for the town.
He served for many hears on the town council and was the oldest member of the Methodist church, serving on its board of trustees for many years. He was also a director and president of the Sugar Grove Savings Bank until it was merged with the Warren Bank & Trust Company, and since that time had served on the advisory committee of the institution.
