Wife of Nathan Stevenson, Nathan and Judith donated the land for the cemetery in 1860 according to her stone.

The Emporia Weekly News - 31 March 1887 - Page 2 - Column 4 - "Obituary - STEVENSON. --- Judith W. Stevenson was born in Kentucky, May 30, 1805. Her maiden name was Dupuy. She was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in her sixteenth year. She was married to Nathan Stevenson May 20, 1824, moved to Illinois in 1834, and from there to Breckenridge County, Kas., in October 1857. She was the mother of ten children, five of whom preceded her to the better land. As a few families had settled around their new home they opened a subscription school in her house, and her daughter Sally taught the school in the winter of 1857-58. Her son William also taught a writing school the same winter. And in the spring of 1859 a Sabbath School was organized at the same place and her husband was superintendent. These are supposed to have been the first schools taught in what is now known as Lyon County. Her house was the first church in that neighborhood, and it was the home of the ministers of the various churches. She was discrete in her bearing in company; commanding in her appearance, with a high degree of practical intelligence, a dutiful wife, an affectionate mother, and one of the best of neighbors. In meeting the reverses of an early pioneer life in Kansas she manifested a heroic spirit and was always hopeful of better days. She lived on the sunny side of life with an ever open hand to help the struggling ones a little higher up the summit of progress. Her life was a benediction on her family and the community in which she lived. March 23, 1887, she left her five children with many grand-children for the far away home of the soul, of which we often sing. A large funeral procession followed her remains to the family burying ground. My the memory of her past life be a light to guide the steps of all who knew her to a better life. J. McAnulty.
