Son of Henry Bartlett Lewis and Carah Edith Wilson Lewis. Captain Henry A. Lewis died in a B-17F bomber accident over the Gulf of Mexico-about 40 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas. There were 2 planes in the accident. It is not known which plane Captain Henry Lewis was in. The planes were a Boeing 17-17-F 27 BO fortress Reg # 41-24621 c/c/msn:3306 which had 11 occupants & 11 fatalities. It was damaged beyond repair. The other plane was a Lockheed/Vega B-17F 45-VE Fortress. reg. # 42-6031 c/n/msn: 6327 with 11 occupants & 11 fatalities. It also was damaged beyond repair.
