The funeral for Nels Fosen, 89, of Leeds was held Tues. at 2 p.m. at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leeds. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died April 9, 1998 as a result of an auto accident on US 2 near Leeds.
Pastor Mark Antal officiated. Vocal music was provided by Pastoe Deborah Stave & Dorothy Clark. Karen Anderson was organist. Pallbearers were Lyle Bracken, Donald Bratlee, Billy Harkness, Keith Kakela, Dennis Sexhus & Allan Young. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements.

Nels S. Fosen was born Jan. 9, 1909 on the family farm in Springfield Township of Towner County near Leeds, to John & Clara Skeie Fosen. He attended the Springfield Township school & Hanson Tractor School in Fargo. He married Hazel Fox Oct 12, 1938 in Churchs Ferry. They farmed until retiring. They spent this past winter in Cando.
He was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church & was cemetery sexton for many years. He was a member & past president of the Springfield Township Board. He serve 37 years on the Leeds Elevator board of directors, 27 of those years as vice president. He joined Leeds Masonic Lodge 67 on May 11, 1949 & later Welcome Lodge 54 of Churchs Ferry. He also served as the District 3 Deputy Grand Lecturer of the Masons for many years. He was a member of Leeds Chapter 45, Order of Eastern Star, where he was Worthy Patron for 45 years, & later a member of Wildrose Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Churchs Ferry. He was also a member of Kem Shrine Temple in Grand Forks & Elks Lodge 1216 of Devils Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; a daughter, Judy Baer of Cando; Larry Baer of Cando; & 2 granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; & 3 brothers, Curtis, Sidney & Bjarne.
