FREDERICK, Md. - John Austin Main, 73, of Citizens Nursing Home, and formerly of 8906 Hawbottom Road, Middletown, Md., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at the home.

Born April 22, 1927, in Hawbottom, Md., he was the son of the late Roy Edgar and Amy Viola Ropp Main.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Smith Main, in 1989.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.

He was a member of Patriotic Club; Loyal Order of Moose 371; and Valley Memorial Post 9 AMVETS of Middletown.

He is survived by four children, Judy Ann Fogle of Frederick, Eddie L. Main and John D. Main, both of Middletown and Joan D. Nolan of Pittsburg, Calif.; a sister, Betty Renn of Frederick; a brother, Paul B. Main of Frederick; three grandchildren; and two aunts.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Main.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St. in Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Middletown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
