He was born January 5, 1953 in Thisvi, Greece. He immigrated to Lorain in 1962. He attended Southview High School.
Mr. Athanas retired in 1992 from Lorain Ford Assembly Plant. He worked there for over 21 years. He enjoyed Western movies and playing pool.
He will be deeply missed by his son John J. (Michelle) Athanas of Lorain; his daughter Nicole (Juan) Rivera of Parma; mother Maria Athanas (née Karaboyias) of Lorain, sister Dimitra Athanas of Lorain; 6 grandchildren and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his father John G, Athanas and a sister Dena Athanas.
His family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, (440) 277-8164. Where a Trisagion service will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. His funeral service will be Wednesday 10 A. M. in the funeral home. Rev. Father Michael Gulgas, pastor of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
