John Marion Strahin was the second son born to Francis Marion Strahin and Mary Matilda Field. He was born on March 16,1854 close to Kingwood,Virginia, the place was later named Herring.
He owned a store three miles from Masontown at a crossroads, and served as a notary public. He taught school in Tucker County in 1878. In 1881 on February 3rd he married Alcinda Herring .They were married by Joseph Clark at the home of Jacob Feather.

From the Bowling Green,Missouri Times:
Born in Preston County,(W)Virginia in the year 1854,he died March 8,1909,age 56 years. He was married to Alcinda Herring in 1881,she died in 1903.Four children were born to this union.Clyde Feathers,of Preston County,West Virginia:Earl of McCune,Mo:Ethel, wife of Thomas Miller of McCune,Mo.;and one child that died in infancy.
He left West Virginia in the fall of 1894,and he settled near McCune,Mo. at which place he resided until the time of his death.
He joined the Baptist Church in early life at Herring W.V.;after removing to Poplar Bluff, Mo. he united with the Baptist Church at that place and was a member at the time of his death. He was a good man.

From the Kingwood,West Virginia Newspaper:
The remains of J.M. Strahin, who was killed on a railroad at Poplar Bluff and he signaled the train to go forward. So it did but he had some switching to do and it backed on him while he was attending other duties.
Mr. Strahin was 56 years of age. A man of more than ordinary ability. He made the race on the Republican ticket for county surveyor. His wife died several years ago and he left here sometime later and found work at
poplar Bluff,Missouri.
He leaves three children;Earl, and Mrs. Thomas (Ethel) Miller.of McCune, and Clyde of W. Virginia. Charles Feather of McCune is his nephew. He had been a consistent member with the Baptist Church for years.

Due to the article stating his remains were brought to Kingwood I wrongly assumed he was buried in W.V.
So happy a fellow graver found and added him to FAG.
