YORKTOWN--Durward J. Paddock, 93, of Yorktown, passed away Tuesday evening, October 30, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Paddock was born in Hutton, IN, to his parents, George Washington and Ilka Lee Wilson Paddock. He was a veteran in the United States Army, serving as a Lt. Colonel in the southern Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and received his masters from Ball State University. He taught school for over 40 years, 22 years at Yorktown at the Yorktown Mount Pleasant Schools. He was a member of the Yorktown Christian Church, member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association, Indiana State Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Williams Paddock; three daughters, Virginia Lee Paddock of Aurora, IN, Patricia Lockhart (husband-John) of St. Mary's, OH, and Connie LaFrance (husband-Don) of Seattle, WA; one son, D.J. Paddock (companion-Joy Bartlett); one brother, Kenneth Q. Paddock (wife-Bridget) of Sprucehead, Maine; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Fred Paddock; one sister, Oleta Hunt; and an infant brother, Max.
Funeral services will be Saturday 11 a.m. at the Gant Funeral Home, Yorktown Chapel. Burial will follow in the Elm Ridge Cemetery with Military Graveside rites by the Veterans of Delaware County. Friends may call Friday 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
