Pioneer Physician Will Be Interred in Belt Cemetery

Citizens of Belt and surrounding country next Sunday will pay their final tribute of respect to Dr. Arthur E. Chamberlain, whose funeral service will be held at 2 in the afternoon in the school auditorium there. Dr. Chamberlain died in the Deaconess hospital in this city Tuesday afternoon and his body will be taken to his home town Friday. The services, which will be held on Sunday, will be conducted by the two resident pastors of Belt, the Rev. John Leacher of the Episcopal church and the Rev. Alvin Taylor of the Methodist church. The members of the lodges, with which Dr. Chamberlain had been affiliated, will also have a part in the funeral services. Burial will be in the cemetery at Belt.

Dr. Chamberlain had been a resident of Belt for almost 30 years and for nearly 28 years had been practicing his profession at Belt. He located at that place late in 1893 after having lived for some time in Great Falls. From his first appearance he enjoyed a large and successful practice and was one of the best known physicians in Cascade county. He continued to practice his profession until his final illness which attacked him four weeks ago. He had been in ill health for two or three months but had only been confined to bed only about four weeks. The final illness was induced by an abscess. Some ten days ago surgeons operated in hope that relief for the patient might be obtained but this proved ineffective.

Arthur E. Chamberlain was born in Twinsburg, Summit county, Ohio, on July 23, 1860, one of two sons born to Mr. and Mrs. William Chamberlain. The other son, Pearl P. Chamberlain, is now living in Bedford, Ohio. Arthur was graduated from the schools in Solon, Ohio, and took a course at Oberlin college. Following this, he taught school in his home state and then for one year in Crisfield, Kansas. He entered the Homeopathic Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where he took up the study of medicine, graduating in 1891. The first year after graduation from medical school he remained as a demonstrator in anatomy in the college, then turned his course to the west, coming to Great Falls in 1893. After eight months he removed to Belt where he had since lived.

In 1892 Dr. Chamberlain and Miss Maud Cann, of Cleveland, Ohio, were married, and she survives him with their two children, Arthur C. Chamberlain, Jr., and Miss Gladys Maude Chamberlain, both living at home.
