Richard J. Kessler Jr., 47, passed away June 8, 2012 onboard USS Enterprise while deployed to 5th Fleet AOR. He was a Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy and had proudly served his country for 28 years on active duty. He was born in 1964 to the late Richard and Colleen (Belt) Kessler Sr. in New York. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of twenty three years; Anne Kessler, two children; Brett Kessler and his wife Virginia, and Brooke Kessler. Grandchildren; Damien, Trey, Gabriel, and James, Siblings; Daryll Rathburn and his wife Kathy, Debbie Zamberlan and her husband John, Donna Ball and her husband Curt, Doreen Owens and her husband Lee, Pam Lynch and her husband Gary and Rochelle Fleetwood and her husband Greg. Master Chief Kessler was a member of the Chief Petty Officers Association and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association as well as Alexander Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. Richard lived by a motto of "Faith, Family, Friends" and will be remembered by those that knew him as a man that lived up to this saying. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Altmeyer Funeral Home- Chesapeake Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd. Chesapeake VA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Alexander Baptist Church, 4316 Pamela Court Chesapeake VA with Pastor Bryan Ray officiating. Services will be concluded with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Chespeake with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the building fund of Alexander Baptist Church in Richard's name.
