Graveside Services for Mr. Harold Curtis Brakefield, 64, of Gainesville, FL formerly of West Monroe, LA, will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012, at 1:00 PM in Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Calhoun with Rev. Eugene Brown officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mr. Brakefield was born on August 8, 1947 in West Monroe Louisiana and passed away after a brief illness in Gainesville, Florida on April 9, 2012.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; Mr. Robert L. Brakefield and Grace Bonds Brakefield, one brother; Joseph T. "Tommy" Brakefield, two sisters; Elsie Marie Brakefield and Robertine Brakefield Hearne, beloved brother-in-law; James G. "Jim" Sackman, and step-son Ryan Breen.
He is survived by one sister, Nora Brakefield Sackman, and her children; Kay Sackman Takewell, James G. "Jay" Sackman Jr., Bobby L. Sackman (Celeste), Christy Sackman Dollins Williams (Tim), and their children and grandchildren. He had two nephews; Robert Dewey Hearne (Patsy), of Pineville, LA, and Donald C. Hearne (Bonita) of Bossier City, LA.
Mr. Brakefield has many special family friends; Charlene Brakefield and son Mike Breen, Cheryl Norman, and step-daughters; Amanda and Lyndsey Norman. He was also blessed with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Harold served in the United States Navy in San Diego, California on board the U.S.S. Enterprise from 1964-1968. After his tenure in the Navy he worked in construction for a while before he became affluent in the heavy equipment rental business. He worked for many large equipment companies, and his last transfer landed him in Atlanta, Georgia. He retired to Chiefland, Florida in 2011 where he loved to fish and have coffee with his special friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM, Friday, at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA, and from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Christ Church in West Monroe, LA.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Gainesville VA Hospital for their care, concern, and medical knowledge, but especially for their tireless efforts in taking care of our special brother, uncle, and cousin. We know he is in a better place then we, who are left on earth, and that his Mom, Dad, and "Uncle James" all welcomed him into Heaven and into the presence of our Glorious Lord.
