Tombstone inscription: "Thomas Beall died Feb. 18, 1864 aged 69". However, the diary of Priscilla Beall McKaig stated that on Feb 17th ... My brother Thomas Beall died this morning at 7 o'clock." Also, Dr. Henry C. Stewert billed Beall's estate for medical services from Jan. 1, 1863 to Feb. 17, 1864.

The newspaper accounts also stated: Civilian & Telegraph ( Cumberland, Md) Feb. 25, 1864 “Local Death of an Old Citizen.— Mr. Thomas Beall, an old respectable citizen, of this country, died at his residence at Frostburg, in this county, on the 17th instant.”

Earlier readings of the cemetery by a Frostburg historian had his name as "J. Thomas Beall". However the tombstone picture only shows Thomas Beall. In Allegany County court records Thomas Beall is referred to as "Thomas Beall of Asa".

In THE OLD PIKE: A HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL ROAD by Thomas Sealright, published in 1894, pages 205, 206 and 211 have the following information concerning Thomas Beall:
"The leading taverns of Frostburg in the palmy days of the road were the ‘Franklin House' and the ‘Highland Hall House'. The ‘Franklin House' was kept for many years by Thomas Beall, the father of the Bealls of Uniontown. It was headquarters of the Good Intent stage line. ...." "Two miles west from Cheney's, and at the foot of Little Savage Mountain, Thomas Beall kept a tavern as early as 1830. William E. Beall, superintendent of the Uniontown rolling mill, was born at the old tavern. Thomas Beall removed from this place to Missouri, but after a short absence, returned to Western Maryland, and took charge of the Franklin House in Frostburg."
