Hartwell Blount Hyde - son of Hartwell Blount Hyde, 1759-1833 and Mary Reavis, 1758-1828, all of North Carolina. The HARTWELL name comes from His grandmother - Mildred MILLY Hartwell, 1720-1795, wife of Richard Hyde, 1717-1762.

Henry Hyde of HYDE'S FERRY PIKE in Davidson Co., TN is also a son of H B & Mildred Hartwell Hyde. Father of Richard (Grandfather of Henry and Hartwell Blount) was ALSO Richard, 1683-1719 and wife Mary Evans. This Richard (b. 1683) was a Pirate with BLACKBEARD's Gang until the death of Edward Teach (Blackbeard). In 1718, Richard Hyde was a Licensed Indian Trader and Ferry Owner. His son-Richard (b. 1717) was also Owner of the Ferry after his Father's Death in 1719; HYDE'S Island on the Roanoke River in Virginia was named for them.

By 1744, Richard Hyde had moved from Virginia to North Carolina where he and Milly married. 8 known children born of this couple.

Henry moved to Middle Tennesse in early 1800's - referred to as the richest settler on the Cumberland River - settled on west side of Davidson County & Hydes Ferry Pike bears the name.
Hartwell was in Williamson County by 1802 where he purchased 1000 acres from William Gilmore in Triune. Both were of substantial means. 11 known children were born to Hartwell & Mary Reavis. There is NO marker for Hartwell B OR Mildred MILLY in this HYDE Cemetery near the farm house known as SOLITUDE in Williamson Co, TN. They are buried in an older Cemetery known as the MARY HYDE Cemetery on the South side of Hwy 96 in a cluster of trees located not far from this Cemetery. Son - Hartwell (#2) and wife Elizabeth Davis Alston Hyde do have marked final resting places within the cemetery along with a dozen or so MARKED graves of children and descendants. Land is still family owned.

The HYDE's intermarried with MANY of the Families within the Davidson & Williamson County area; JORDAN's and CAROTHER's repeatedly in Williamson Co.). 9 known children were born to Hartwell & Elizabeth Alston HYDE.

The "Hartwell" and/or "Blount" names (also spelled BLUNT) were passed down through the generations and incoporated along with other family names within the families.

Hartwell B & Elizabeth Alston HYDE are my 2nd Great Grandparents. Their son Isaac Watson Hyde and wife Sarah Priscilla "Sallie Priscilla" JORDAN are my Great Grandparents. Sallie P. died 3 months after giving birth to my Grandmother - Pallie James Hyde who married Henry Alvin Goode; They are buried in the HYDE Cemetery. ---knm
