A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Westminster Presbyterian Church for Fred W. Opp of Eugene, who died May 24 of age-related causes. He was 77.

He was born May 26, 1934, in Pueblo, Colo., to Otto and Katherine Eichman Opp. He married Frieda Murray on Sept. 15, 1956, in Portland.

He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University in 1964. He served in the Coast Guard from 1952 to 1956. From 1965 to 1994, he worked in federal government positions, retiring from Bonneville Power Administration in Portland.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Fred Jr. of Camano Island, Wash.; three daughters, Leslie Opp-Beckman of Eugene, Rebecca Opp of Portland and Patricia Opp Daniels of Lexington, Ky.; four brothers, John and Wesley, both of Portland, Ralph of Klamath Falls and Harry of Sandy; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary. Remembrances to Alzheimer's Association.
