Jessie James Bigbie, Sr., 89, died Oct. 22, 1999, at Laurelwood Manor Nursing Home in Laurel, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Longview, Texas with burial in Lakeview Cemetery. Members of Pine Tree Masonic Lodge #1396 will serve as pallbearers and will conduct graveside services.
A native of East Texas, he lived there until his wife's death in 1991, at which time he moved to Laurel. He was retired from British American and worked as a contract pumper for Gulf and Chevron. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Longview, Texas where he served as a deacon. He was an active Mason for nearly 60 years in Canton Lodge #98 and Pine Tree Lodge #1396 and was a past master.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Leota Mae Gaby; two brothers, Maddox Bigbie and Leonard Bigbie; and two sisters, Ozella Moore and Jewel Johnson.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jessie James Bigbie, Jr and wife Ann Bigbie of Willis, Texas and Leonard "Bud" Zelby Bigbie and wife Lesta Ann Bigbie of Laurel; a daughter and son-in-law, Ida Lou Irvin of Lake Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Clifford Bigbie and Barney Bigbie; two sisters, Eunice Ray and Octavia Beisch; eight granchildren: Debra Pridgen, Joe Bigbie, Laura Cotton, Jesse J. Bigbie, III, David Bigbie, Kim McKeithen, Chris Bigbie and Lee Bigbie; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Second Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1201 Second Avenue, Laurel, MS 39440 or to Pine Tree Lodge #1396, P.O.
