1915 - 2005

Barbara Whipple Billeter died October 16, at her Rancho Bernardo home. Born April 21, 1915, in Bristol, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Margaret (Sargent) and Ashley Plummer Whipple. She attended Smith College. On November 24, 1945 she married Jack J. Billeter, who died July 7, 1977. She is survived by their three children and families: Anne Margaret Billeter and husband Robert Hoolko of Medford, Ore., Kaye Billeter Ferrara of Rancho Bernardo, and Chandler Whipple Billeter and wife Anne of Vista. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Dana and John Ferrara of San Diego; Joseph and Miles Billeter of Vista, Steven Hoolko of Medford, Oregon, and Melissa and David Billeter of New Jersey; and two great-grandchildren: Aedan and Riley Ferrara. She was preceded in death by her brother Chandler, who died in the Pacific while on an Air Force mission in World War II.

Mrs. Billeter worked for Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and for seventeen years for Beckman Instruments in Fullerton and in Mountainside, New Jersey. She was a member of the Sierra Club, The Westerners and the D.A.R., and an active member of the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society, The North County Genealogical Society, and The Rancho Bernardo Friends of the Library. She loved books and reading, and pursued Whipple genealogy with a passion.

Mrs. Billeter grew up in Bristol, spending her summers at the family cottage on Newfound Lake. In 1963 the family moved from Buena Park to Westfield, N. J. and she was able to resume summer visits to "the Lake." In recent years she moved from her home in Rancho Bernardo to the Lake for each July and August.

She enjoyed her wide-ranging interests and enthusiasms throughout a long and satisfying life, filled with friends and family of all ages who will miss her dearly and remember he with love.
