Mom died quiely and comfortably at the Gallatin Rest Home. She was born in Whitehall to Robert Allen White and Margaret Elizabeth Sinnott White on July 10,1924, the fifth child in the family. She married Henry Elliott Barkell on Oct 26, 1946 in Whitehall. She was the mother of three children. She was a registered nurse and worked for F I Sabo in Bozeman for 25 years and she worked at Montana State University Student Health Service for 25 years. She was a wonderful person and she will be missed by many.



Dorothy Etta Barkell passed away June 7, 2012. She was born July 10, 1924 in Whitehall, MT to Robert and Margaret (Sinnott) White.
Dorothy graduated from Whitehall High School in 1942. She then attended Carroll College and St. James Hospital where she received a degree in Nursing.
Dorothy worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. F.I. Sabo for 27 years and for 23 years at the Montana State University Health Center.
Dorothy was a member and leader of 4-H, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She enjoyed golf, doll house miniatures and cooking for the winter fair, where she was a Blue Ribbon Winner and received the First Cupboard of Champions Award.
Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Elliott Barkell; brothers, Richard and Daniel White; and sisters, Jessie Greene Flynn and Gertrude McKenzie. She is survived by: her children, John Elliott (Loretta) Barkell of Phoenix, AZ, Robert Allen (Lois) Barkell of Fernley, NV and Jane Elizabeth Barkell of Bozeman, MT; three grandchildren; and nieces Frances Greene of Helena, MT and Margaret Parslow of Auburn, CA.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Whitehall Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Gallatin Rest Home Auxiliary, 1221 West Durston, Bozeman, MT 59715.
