He was the son of Joseph Himes and Abigail Ann (Space) Himes. He was a farmer. He married Annie Stewart on 19 Jun 1873. They had seven children: Jessie Lee Himes Polliard; Cloe B. Himes; Elsie Bernice Himes Hetrick; Minnie Wilda Himes Slagle; Lillian Himes Musser; Sue Geneva Himes Traister and Mary Edith Himes Miller. He died at the age of 87.
