He was a coal miner. He worked in the Pennsylvania mines for 60 years. He was the son of Jacob Bond Slagle (1837-1895) and Elizabeth Howard Slagle (1843-1919). He married Minnie Wilda Himes on 15 Dec 1901. They had four children: Walter William Slagle (1903-1918) died at age 14 from a heart ailment; Harry Edgar Slagle (1905-1995); Claire Mildred Slagle Lucas (1909-1997); and Bernice Gladys Slagle Shick ( 1914-2005). After his wife, Minnie died in 1946, he married a second time to Iva Pearl (Bish) Walls on 25 Aug 1949. He died suddenly from a heart attack
