WWII, US Army, Pvt. Unit: 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division. Operation Torch; Eastern Task Force. 8 Nov 1942 invasion of Algeria landing at area near Algiers. Eugene went missing 6 Dec 1942. He was declared dead by the Army on 6 Dec 1943 giving North Africa as his death place. His name is on the memorial at the North Africa American Cemetery in Carthage, Tunisia. Since his unit was in Algiers when he went missing, it seems that is were he died. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. His body was never recovered.
