"The funeral of the late Judge Ogden Hoffman took place at 12.30 P.M. on Tuesday, August 11, 1891, at Trinity Church, the rector, the Reverend J. Sanders Reed, officiating. From the preceding Monday until the funeral services the remains had lain in the mortuary chapel of the church, which was visited by very many of the old friends of respect to his memory. For hours representative men, judges of the Federal and state courts, lawyers of eminence, city officials, merchants, and men of other vocations, many of whom had early linked their fortunes with California, and who had seen her rise to prosperity and wealth, passed within the dimly lighted chapel to gaze in sadness upon the peaceful features of the dead. The sincerity of their grief was strikingly evident. Flowers in profusion-memorials of tenderness, tributes of love and respect were placed upon and arranged around the casket and railings of the chancel. To the solemn strains of Beethoven's funeral march the body was borne from the chapel into the church, where it was met by the rector, who repeated, as he preceded it to the chancel in front of which it was placed, that portion of the burial service beginning with the words, "I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord." The 46th Psalm was then chanted by the choir, After the impressive reading by the rector of the service for the dead, the hymn, "Just as I am, without one plea," was sung by the choir. The funeral procession was again formed, and the remains, preceded by the rector and the pallbearers, were borne from the church and conveyed to San Rafael, where they were interred in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, there to repose until "this mortal shall put on immortality,"
