Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Center Point Cemetery for James T Witt, 72, who died Thursday in the Veteran's Facility at Fort Bayard, New Mexico. Smith's directed the services and Rev W.S. Bunton, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated.

He was a native of Center Point, and had served in the US Cavalry during the Spanish American War. He was the son of the late James Monroe and California Denton Witt, and had never married. The survivors include one sister, Mrs J.H. Surber of San Antonio; two brothers, W.T. Witt of Clifton, Arizona, and Fred Witt of Clifton and several nephews and nieces.

The pallbearers were Sid McElroy, R.W. Byrd, R.E. Tullos and Frank Nelson.
