Carol (Pemble) was born on December 17, 1919, in rural Stearns County on the farm, the youngest daughter of Chester and Josephine (Sanborn) Pemble.

She grew up in the Paynesville and New London areas and graduated from New London High School in 1938. She continued her education at St. Cloud Teachers College.

After receiving her teaching certificate, Carol taught in several rural schools before settling in Blomkest.

She was baptized and confirmed at Paynesville Methodist Church and was a long time member of Svea Lutheran Church where she was active in the LCW serving as treasurer for over 40 years. She also taught Sunday school for many years.

On June 1, 1941, Carol was united in marriage to Eldon Matson in Paynesville, Minnesota, they spent most of their married life in the Blomkest community, where Carol taught school and later joined her husband, Eldon, at the State Bank of Blomkest.

Her dedication was not only measured in years, working until the age of 86, but her commitment to her customers was never ending.

Her family remembers her competitive nature, especially with bowling, often checking her scores against Eldy's after an evening of league.

She enjoyed watching Eldy and especially Warren's softball games throughout the years. Her proudest and happiest times were spent with her grandchildren and families.

She is survived by her three children, Marcia (Larry) Knutson of Spicer; Warren Matson (Brenda Sachs) of Spicer and Arlene Heuer of Maplewood; grandchildren, Kelly (Tony) Anderson, Marni (Jeff) Paffrath, Sarah (James) Zeller, Dan Heuer, Kjerstin Knutson and five great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother-in-law, John Winton (Marion) Matson of Bloomington and sister-law, Doris Matson of Richfield and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eldon; brothers, Chester "Bud" and Harry Pemble; sisters, Marjorie Larson and Edna Sunde and son-in-law, Gene Doesken.
