Dr. John T. Faris Rites Tomorrow

Funeral services for Dr. John T. Faris, 78, retired editor of the board of Christian education, Presbyterian church, U.S.A., who died yesterday at Midstate Baptist hospital, will be held tomorrow afternoon at the graveside in West Laurel cemetery, Philadelphia, Pa.

Prayer services were held at 4:30 p.m. yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Noble Van Ness, Golf Club Lane where Dr. Faris had made his home since his retirement in 1937.

The body left for Philadelphia by train immediately following the rites here. Dr. Faris had been ill only a short time.

Born in Missouri
Born in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Dr. Faris came from a family of ministers and missionaries. He was a prolific writer and during his career served as a newspaper editor at Anna, Ill., and San Francisco. He had served pastorates at Mount Carmel, Ill., and at Markham memorial church, St. Louis, Mo.

He served with the food administration in Washington during Word War I, and before his retirement, Dr. Faris had been for 30 years with the Presbyterian board of Christian education with headquarters in Philadelphia.

A world traveler, he had only recently returned from an extended trip to South America and the West Indies and planned to leave in two weeks to visit friends and relatives in England and Scotland.

Wife Died in 1934
A son of the late William Wallace and Isabella Thomson Faris, he was educated at Lake Forest college, Princeton university and McCormick Theological seminary. He married the former Miss Clara Lee Carter, who died in 1934.

Dr. Faris was author of more than 60 volumes on biographical, travel and inspirational subjects and school textbooks.

Besides Mrs. Van Ness, he is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Condit Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Gerard MacGilvray of Long Island, N.Y., and nine grandchildren.
