Local Youth Dies 2 Days After Being Hit In Germany
Pfc. Howard Daniel Bingaman, wounded on April 3 in Germany, died of his wounds on April 5, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingaman, 330 McDowell avenue, have been informed. The local soldier, 23, had been in the service less than a year. He was inducted on August 15, 1944, and was a member of the Second Armored Division, having received training at Camp Wheeler. A member of Grace United Brethren Church, he was employed at Sharrett Motors before entering the service. His wife, Virginia Bingaman, and their three-year-old son, Howard Lester, resided on Pangborn boulevard. Other survivors include the parents; sister, Dorothy, Maugansville, and brothers, Floyd, United States Navy at Norfolk, and Chester, at home. Reburial Rites For Pfc. H. C. Bingaman Scheduled Friday
Reburial services will be conducted Friday for Pfc. Howard C. Bingaman, who died overseas almost four years ago. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. G. I. Rider, assisted by the Rev. Daniel M. Long, at 4 p.m. Friday from the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Bingaman, 810 Potomac avenue. Interment will be in Rest Haven cemetery. The 29th Division Association will provide military honors. Pfc. Bingaman entered the Army on August 15, 1944, training at Camp Wheeler with the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment of the Second Armored Division. He went overseas in January, 1945. First wounded in March, he was wounded again in central Germany on April 3, 1945 and died two days later. He was 23 years old. The body had been laid to rest in a United States military cemetery at Margraten, Holland. Pfc. Bingaman was a member of Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church. Surviving, besides his parents, are his widow, Virginia; son, Howard Lester; brothers, Floyd, Hagerstown; Charles, at home, and sister, Mrs. Dorothy Grumbine, Maugansville.
