Son of William Henry Hood Sr and his first wife Mary L. Ellis of Eagle Rock, Wake County, NC. His stepmother Mary Ann Wiggins.

The marriage bond to Sarah Anne Richardson was issued on Nov 5, 1868 in Wake County, NC. They had seven children - four sons and three daughters.

At the time of his death William H Hood, Jr was serving his second term as Registrar of Deeds for Wake County. During his life he was County Comissioner & Deputy Clerk Of Superior Court for Wake County, NC. He was for eight years or more a Justice of the Peace for Mark's Township. He had resided in Raleigh for about five years.

He was buried at Raleigh City Cemetary on Feb 5. 1901
