To quote Dr. Myers, who in 1954 wrote a tribute to William for his 80th birthday and published in The Aquarium magazine, Mr. Innis was "the best known and most respected aquarist and authority on aquariums in the world. His books, his photographs and his influence on this field have educated millions."

* 1895 Entered into his father's printing business (which would print many of the books Innes would later write on Aquariums).

* Early 1900s takes up Photography as a hobby (later producing most of the color plates for his books using his photographs).

* 1912 Helps launch "The Aquarium" magazine as President of the Philadelphia Aquarium Society.

* 1917 publishes book "Goldfish Varieties and Tropical Aquarium Fishes" which would be republished for 15 editions into the mid 1930s.

* 1929 publishes book "The Modern Aquarium"

* 1932 Starts "The Aquarium" magazine as a monthly publication and is published for 35 years until 1967.

* 1935 landmark "Exotic Aquarium Fishes" book is published and totals 19 editions over the next 30+ years.

* 1945 publishes book "Your Aquarium"

* 1947 publishes book "Goldfish Varieties and Water Gardens"

* 1951 publishes book "Aquarium Highlights"

* 1951 Temple University conferred upon him the Doctorate of Humane Letters.
