Son of Wilhelmina Bartels.

Robert served as a Second Lieutenant and co-pilot aboard a C-53D #42-68788, 93d Troop Carrier Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 11, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Laboratory technician and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert died in the "Line Of Duty" when his plane crashed 3 Miles South of Alliance Army Air Force Base, Nebraska during the war.
