Irving served as a Private, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Erie Cty, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 25, 1943 in New York City, New York. He was noted as being employed as a Policemen and also as Married.

Irving died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.

District Attorney Frank S. Hogan and several members of his staff attended the funeral services today for Private Irving Barst, 28 years old, at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, Amsterdam Avenue and 76th street. The services were conducted by Rabbi Joseph E> Miller.

Before he entered the Army in March 1942, Mr. Barst was an investigator in the District Attorney's office. He was one of twenty-six soldiers who were drowned on December 17 in the waters off Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans.

Mr. Barst began work in the District Attorney's office in 1935 as a messenger. He was promoted to process server and during Thomas E. Dewey's regime, he was named an interviewer and then an investigator. His home was at 55 East 21st street, Brooklyn. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Barst.

Burial was at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, L.I.
