Raymond Bass


BLUE RIVER — A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for Raymond E. Bass of Blue River, who died April 19 of congestive heart failure. He was 85. A reception will follow the service at McKenzie Community Center in Blue River.


He was born March 20, 1926, in Blodget to Everett and Nellie Loveall Bass. He married Jeanette Meyer on Nov. 8, 1947, in Portland.


He graduated from Sweet Home High School. He worked in the shipyards before joining the Navy and serving during World War II. He worked in the timber industry and, in 1955, worked in heavy construction. He worked on the Cougar Dam, the Carmen Smith Hydroelectric Project and BART in San Francisco. He also worked on road construction in New Guinea for two years.


Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon Bass of Houston, Texas, Linda Del Rio of Pine Grove, Calif., and Debra Decker of Naples, Idaho; a son, Joseph Rothery of Jefferson; a brother, Larry of Portland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
