William Henry Gardner, Commodore, US Navy, Civil War

William Henry Gardner (1800-1870), entered the
navy as Midshipman in 1814, was Lieutenant in 1825,
Commander in 1841, Captain in 1855. He had important
commands, both at sea and ashore, and retired in 1862
with the rank of Commodore.
