A native of Spartanburg, SC, William (Bill)was the son of the late George Hampton and Annie Belle Cannon Bradley. He was one of seven children. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, and for a time, worked in Washington, DC in the offices of former Secretary of State, and later Governor of South Carolina, James F. Byrnes. He was former dean of the Spartanburg Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He graduated with a Masters Degree in organ and church music from the Julliard School of Music in New York, NY in 1951. He married Margaret Virginia Lutz and settled in Tryon, NC in 1953, and taught music in the Spartanburg City School District for many years. He also was organist and choirmaster with the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon for 28 years.
