Louise was born on November 19, 1924 in McGaheysville, and was the daughter of the late John Franklin Pirkey and Mae Catherine Michael.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a longtime member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, choir member, deacon, and member of the XYZ group.
On March 19, 1949, she married Edward Conard Slye; he preceded her in death on November 20, 1989. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Louise is survived by two sons, Clifton "Buck" Foley of Berryville, VA and Donnie Slye of Asheville, NC; one daughter, Diane Nichols and husband, Roger of McGaheysville; one sister, Frances Huffman of Harrisonburg; four grandchildren, Jennifer L. Taylor and husband, Lee, Chris Nichols and wife, Chrissy, Charles Slye, and Edward Slye; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Harrisonburg Baptist Church, with Dr. T.W. Johnson and Sam Jones officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville, following the service. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday evening, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
