MT. VERNON — — Thelma E. Draper, 96 of Rockford, passed away May 31, 2012, at Alden Alma Nelson Manor. Born Jan. 1, 1916, she was the daughter of John (Jack) and Stella (Moreland) Laird. On April 25, 1934, she married Owen Draper in Fairfield.
Thelma enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery and cookie baking. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Rogers of Paragould, Ark., Teresa Chapman of Rockford, Flora (Jerry) Cross of Polo and Sharon (Gil) Granberg of Deltona, Fla.; grandchildren, Sheila (Charles) White, Shelly (Randy) Jones, and Melanie (Gerrick) Morris of Paragould, Ark., Faron (Dana) Rogers of Roscoe, Robert (Missie) Chapman, and Glenn Jackson of Longwood, Fla., Darren (Tammy) Cross of S. Beloit, Duane (Sybrina) Cross of Haldane, Eric (Jessica) Hoff and Abby (Mel) Tallada of Rockford; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Owen; parents, John (Jack) and Stella Laird; daughter, Thelma Jean; grandchildren, Dan Rogers, Jr. and Theresa Gail Williams; great-grandson, Ryan Kennington and son in-law Dan Rogers, Sr.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford. The funeral is to follow on June 6 in Mt. Vernon at Hughey Funeral Home at 1 p.m., with visitation at 12:30 p.m. until time of service. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery in Wayne City.
