M. Frances (Sherman) Groves [Petersburg]

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Mary Frances Groves, 82, of Petersburg, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Grant Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 7, 1929 in Moorefield, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late George Willis Sherman and Eda (Fitzwater) Sherman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Coolidge "Jack" Groves on Sept. 5, 2008; two brothers, Charles Lee Sherman and Ralph Willis Sherman.
Mrs. Groves and her siblings attended Neff School near Moorefield and she faithfully organized the school reunions. She graduated from Moorefield High School in 1947 and graduated from Cathermans Business School. She retired as administrative assistant from Rockingham Poultry in Moorefield, and was the bookkeeper for J.C. Groves and Son from 1975-2008.
She was a member and Past Matron of Moorefield Chapter 102, Order of the Eastern Star and when she moved to Petersburg she transferred her membership to the Petersburg Chapter 146 where she was Past Matron. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg and a active member of Petersburg Garden Club.
Surviving are two sons, Harman F. Groves and wife Donna of Maysville, W.Va. and James C. Groves and wife Mitzi of LaVale; one daughter, Karen Sue Sheppo and husband Michael of Silver Spring; five grandchildren, Harman Frank Groves III, Katherine Danielle (Sheppo) Pasieta, Mary Ann Groves, Matthew Michael Sheppo and James Brian Groves; four great-grandchildren, Luke Anthony Pasieta, Lucy Jacklyn Groves, Alexander Michael Pasieta, Benjamin Michael Sheppo; three sisters, Hazel Miller of Baltimore, Alice Godlove of Winchester, Va. and Betty Ann Ours of Arlington, Va.; two nieces, three nephews, four great-nieces, three great-nephews, one great-great-niece.
Family will receive friends Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. The Petersburg Chapter 146, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services Tuesday evening 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be Wednesday 11 a.m., June 6, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg with Pastor Larry M. Cantu officiating. Interment will follow in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
